Manager R&D (Mechanical Design)


Position requires an experienced engineer with a work history including new and series machinery development.  Our experienced and knowledgeable team of 12+ employees incorporates flexibility and a “can-do” attitude in their work.  Our market is challenging, constantly evolving and volatile at times. Qualified candidates will be eager to accept these challenges.

  • Responsible for all mechanical design, drafting, and R&D area used primarily for testing of prototypes and other special equipment
  • Support all employees in training and day-to-day work; schedule workload, assignments, and capacity planning with appropriate tools; organize design software, Hauni standards, and technology training
  • Responsible for the technical direction of the team’s solutions
  • Oversee work on wide range of equipment from full machine lines to customer-requested minor improvements
  • Oversee engineering work that includes both R&D and serial product engineering
  • Collaborate with Hamburg supporting development projects; develop strong connections with R&D, Engineering and Management teams in Hamburg
  • Collaborate with Sales on quotes, project planning, labor and parts cost estimating
  • Work directly with customers leading technical discussions
  • Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping and full development projects
  • Manage successfully competing priorities; ability to react quickly to changes in scheduling, customers’ requirements, etc.
  • Oversee detailed reporting of designs and testing


  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar fieldL
  • Five plus years of high-speed automation design and development beneficial
  • Five plus years of managing engineering teams in technical projects beneficial
  • Personnel development experience
  • Working knowledge of fabrication techniques, including 3D printing technology, electrical engineering, electrical hardware design, programming and related topics
  • Experience with agile management techniques such as SCRUM
  • Clear communicator with both verbal and written communication; experienced with and good comfort level with Powerpoint and presentations to a wide variety of audiences
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office software, SAP, MS Project and Unigraphics
  • Working knowledge of German language; ability to travel domestically and internationally

 There will be a cross-training and transition period. Full assumption of all responsibilities will be effective May 1, 2019.
