Vice President Breakthrough Technologies (m/f/d)

Tasks:

Our unit for breakthrough technologies pushes early innovations, which have not yet been validated by customers. This is done in three dimensions: Centers of Excellence (CoE) provide expertise in crucial areas of software technologies and digitization, the PoC (proof-of-concept) factory builds software that allows us to validate ideas with users at an early stage and technology strategists support top executives in assessing technology trends as well as company-external and -internal initiatives concerning their strategic relevance.

Task & Responsibilities

  • Manage a cross-location organization of up to 50 employees (data scientists, full stack developers, technology strategists, experts in specific fields of software technology) in total who are pioneering new technologies and early products innovations that are centered around AI-driven software for Industrial IoT
  • Build up the organization from currently 4 employees to the target size of around 50 by hiring the best talents with a focus on technical and non-technical (soft) skills
  • Lead a team of 5 to 9 employees, of which some are themselves leading teams
  • Ensure a high level of efficiency in our efforts to understanding new technologies related to Industrial IoT and digitization and the business potential that comes with it by
    • Fostering a great working environment for highly skilled and motivated experts that strive for technology leadership
    • Creating an organizational set-up, which makes teams highly productive and keeps them curious about technological advances of the software industry
    • Supporting the personal growth of employees concerning their technical and non-technical skill sets
    • Shaping a culture that is based on the hunger for success, trust, respect and willingness to support other team members
    • Understanding and respecting the needs and aspirations of digital natives
  • Ensure that all stakeholders of the organization are known and supported in the best possible way
  • Have an active role in meetings with customers in order to help them to understand aspects of state-of-the-art software technologies that are relevant to them and our success in engaging with customers
  • In alignment with the CTO, support discussions with existing and potential future partners for defining our collaboration with them
  • Engage in activities related to merger and acquisition (M & A), especially technical due diligence
  • Together with the CTO, support the group’s executive board, especially the group’s CDO, in decisions related to the digital strategy

Qualifications:

Required Job-Related Skills

  • Excellent management and communication skills that are well-adopted to the specific needs of digital natives
  • Profound understanding of technology related to Industrial IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cloud Infrastructure and Software Architecture Paradigms
  • Ability to lead high-profile technical experts and managers with technical background
  • Capability to understand and convince customers, even if they don’t have a background in IT and software development
  • Ambition to follow new trends and innovation in the software industry
  • Fluent in English (written and oral), proficiency in German would be beneficial
