For our location in Richmond we are looking for

Director, Engineering
This high-level and customer-facing position oversees the entire engineering function, comprised of 20 employees including research and development. Direct reports include Manager, Mechanical Design, Manager, Electrical Design and two Project Managers.

Position requires an experienced engineer with a work history including new and series machine development, experience managing engineers and with both electrical and mechanical topics. Our experienced and knowledgeable team incorporates flexibility and a “can do” attitude in their work. Our market is challenging, constantly evolving and volatile at times which requires handling multiple work streams and tasks simultaneously.

The Director Engineering is a one of the company’s six Director-level management team.

Tasks:

Supervise, coach, manage and lead mechanical, electrical design of complex cigarette processing machinery and equipment, including R&D projects.

 Provide reliable estimations for customer-driven development projects, and manage these projects regarding time and cost objectives.

 Plan and direct all aspects of engineering activities.

 Utilize best practice engineering methods to provide expert technical guidance (design reviews, risk assessments, etc.).

 Manage the development and implementation of design improvements and controls based on analysis of field service reports and customer complaints.

 Manage the development and production of parts lists and schematics for fabrication of engineering prototypes and Hauni Richmond equipment.

 Oversee testing and provide analysis of performance of prototype equipment.

 Coordinate and maintain partnership with Hauni group departments globally.

 Recruit, direct and evaluate employees. Supervise the development of staff abilities.

 Direct the negotiation of research contracts and prepare the company’s engineering budget.

Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Comprehensive and high-level understanding of both design to cost and design to function

Ten plus years of experience in machinery design

 Five plus years of experience managing engineering teams in complex technical projects

 Experience with agile management techniques (SCRUM) to manage R&D projects

 Clear communicator both verbally and written; ability to prepare and present powerPoint presentations to a wide variety of audiences

 High level of proficiency with MS Office software, SAP and MS Project

 Working knowledge of German language beneficial, ability to travel, including internationally
